Have you ever loved someone?
Loved them so much that you had to give them away
Knowing they could give you none
Knowing they would leave you on your own one day
Never asking for your chance
Knowing they would never understand
Never asking for this dance
Never knowing where you stand
Wanting to hold something so bad
Wanting to keep it all
Knowing this could be the best that youve ever had
Knowing you will remember details that once seemed small
Rather than give any more
You hide and shut them out
Closing the door
Before confronting your inner doubts
Have you ever
Loved a man
Telling yourself never
When they say that you can
Have you ever misplaced your mind?
And left your heart someplace out there too
Leaving everyone else behind
While pride convinces you that you have something to prove
Giving up your beliefs
Not remembering your simple goals
Not knowing of any other relief
Outside of their world that seems so whole
Can they see?
Do they even know?
How complex this can be
With the feelings we just dont find the time to show
Im defensive
And wanting to hide somewhere in the cracks
Looking at the way I chose to live
Knowing I may never have the chance to give it all back
Faith turns to grief
Wanting turns to regret
Nothing comes as a relief
When you have to fight for everything you get
Why is it so hard
So complicated
Thinking of hallmark cards
And ones you would send if you dated
Not expressing yourself
Holding it all in
Ignoring your declining health
Convinced that you block out all of lifes awful sin
Have you ever loved someone?
Someone who seemed so cold
Knowing you will be left with none
Shunning all of the advice you once sold
Wanting it all
Knowing you may have nothing to give him
Knowing you will never fall so hard
If you can keep your feelings dim
Tangible expectations
Lost somewhere in a dream
Blocking out communication
Making things out to be better than they seem
Wholeness
Lost for words
Darkness
Covers the words you never heard
Overcome by life
Faced by your forgotten fears
Relationships and their left over strife
And messages become more clear
Locking out what you feel
Telling yourself that is home
Wanting love to be real
While youre convinced love is what left so you alone
